Your First Cryotherapy

Before you embark on your first cryotherapy treatment

There are a few items to discuss regarding what to expect during your cryotherapy treatment followed by important safety procedures that you’ll be required to follow during your treatment.

During your 3-minute cryotherapy treatment you will stand in our octagon sauna.  As the treatment begins, nitrogen gas will disperse into the cabin bringing the temperature down to near -200°F.  The freezing temperature is necessary in order to trigger the anti-inflammatory physiological response from the body.  Because the nitrogen gas surrounding your body does not contain any moisture the cold sensation experienced during a cryotherapy treatment can be described as a dry cold that is tolerable for the 3-minute exposure.

Safety procedures:

Review and sign the health and liability waiver to ensure that you are healthy enough to participate in cryotherapy.  (see: WHO SHOULD NOT DO CRYOTHERAPY? below) If you have any questions regarding whether you are healthy enough to participate, please consult with your physician prior to your treatment.

There are 4 important safety items to abide by to ensure a safe and proper cryotherapy experience.

  1. Stand in the center of the cryosauna throughout your treatment.  Avoid leaning on the inner walls.
  2. Rotate during the treatment. The technician who will be with you during the entire session will announce when to rotate (every 15 seconds ¼ rotation) throughout your three-minute treatment.  Additionally, the technician will continually ask for your feedback about how you are doing during the session.  If at any time you feel too cold, uncomfortable….and want to stop the session…...tell the technician immediately and the session can be stopped.  Listen to your body.
  3. Wear all provided protective gear. This includes socks, slippers, glove liners and gloves.  In addition to these items you will also be wearing your undergarments during treatment.  For women this includes bra and underwear.  For men underwear are required. Please remove jewelry excluding rings on your fingers which will be covered. Remove your own socks before putting on the provided socks.  This ensures that no moisture in the socks are held against your skin.
  4. Finally, it is important to keep your chin raised up throughout your treatment to ensure that you do not breath in the cold nitrogen vapors. Nitrogen is not toxic nor harmful to our health, however, it can cause lightheadedness if an excessive amount is inhaled.  Please be aware of your breathing throughout your treatment, keeping your chin raised up and maintaining slow and steady breaths. Notify your technician immediately if you experience any lightheadedness.
